The Artwork and The Artist - Lowel Brook "Inspired by the dynamic energy and goodness of my marriage, I began depicting partnership as a yin yang. I intended to portray two different halves of one whole equally and oppositely contrasting with each other. As I painted, however, the two fathomless centers began turning in the same direction. Each is not completing the other to make one whole. About the Artwork Inspired by the dynamic energy and goodness of her own marriage, the artist began depicting partnership as a yin yang. Originally, she had intended to portray two different halves of one whole equally and oppositely contrasting with each other. As she painted, however, the two fathomless centers began turning in the same direction. Each is not completing the other to make one whole. Rather, the two complete and unique wholes are spinning together. By their mutual energy and aligned intention they are generating light. From the Artist - Lowell Brook Eight years ago I had the great good fortune of being a participant in three Satyana Institute “Power of Reconciliation” workshops, and presented my art at a fourth. It was during the workshop sessions of breathwork that I received visionary inspiration for paintings and sculptures titled: Ma Mandala- a feminine cosmology. Earlier in life, I had been frustrated and painfully aware of my own diminishment as a woman. When I was in groups of women and men I usually either pretended to engage, challenged any bold person who spoke to me, or withdrew into my interior. I was often astonished at the disabling and agonizing patterns of control and injury so common between the masculine and feminine energies in myself and in the world. Not until the Gender Reconciliation work was I able to safely speak and act in my fuller truth, and to witness other women and men revealing their similar stories. The dynamic gender work enabled me to cross a major threshold on my journey of healing and self-liberation. The body of art and writing that has flowed out since is at www.Becomingfree.com Lowell Brook (MEd/MDiv) is a co-editor for Offerings, a publication for evolving women. www.Offeringspublications.com
